Hey everyone,
I’m thinking about coming to ThemeForest with some templates, first HTML and maybe later WordPress, but was wondering if you could give me an idea on whether or not the following design would be accepted (coded of course):
Thanks!

Can hardly figure out what maison is saying… But, to add to their reasons of not linking to items: it should also be avoided because the only inspiration it gives is the inspiration to copy.
And next to that, the reviewers aren’t gods either. A different reviewer may get you a different (possibly more positive) response – so try again.

I saw this file and exactly because of the preview of how it could look like if printed I was curious as to see how he did it… So seeing that it was just a plain solid black was disappointing and left me feeling deceived. Even with his instruction on how to print it, it wouldn’t come out like on the preview. I don’t think that’s right, an “artistic representation” should mean that indeed the environment and perhaps the lightning the card is placed in is fake but shouldn’t be about the card itself.
But since the prices on GR are so low I won’t need a refund for this, I just wanted to have some clarification on it and prevent other buyers from making the same mistake.

I suppose I could contact the author for clarification. But I don’t think it should damage the marketplace as long as support actually does something about it… sadly, in this case, they won’t.
Also, I noticed the author actually states that the preview is an “artistic representation”... Which doesn’t make anything right for me – I might as well start sending in empty PSD ’s as source file with a nice preview of something not included and state it’s an “artistic representation”. Frankly, a solid black rectangular with some text resembles that quite a lot anyway.

Patrick, I am not getting a card from GR. I was merely looking through the cards they have here to find out how they deal with CMYK black (so far most of them just don’t).
And I’m glad raincutter understands my point. To add to it: I doubt that he had a single card printed in order to create that preview. To fire up the printers for a single card…. there’s no printer that would do that. Unless you pay him for it sure, but that would be very expensive. So unless he actually did that, he probably made it in Photoshop and it seems that he made it look more attractive than it actually is.
Perhaps you’re his friend, then I’m sorry and understand your defensive position on the matter but he definitely does not “very clearly” state that the card he uses on the preview is just an example. His card is, as I mentioned before, a solid black… this won’t be a solid black after printing – due to the CMYK ink. Nor will it magically appear with the texture or angular gradient the preview image features.
I too am not against the author. I just think that the issue here is very obvious but yet ignored and find that stange. But I don’t think this will go anywhere so I will let it be for now.

Any mod may feel free to remove the image for me, since I can’t anymore, but I doubt that anyone will steal his concept of a solid black with some text.
And sure if I print this on plastic or use UV gloss or another expensive method/material I might get that result… but that’s hardly the point. The point is that he presents the card as being as displayed on the preview, but it’s not. If I print it on the right material, and place the card in the right light and position it might look like that… but then he should clearly state that in the file description. If I sell someone a product and advertise it, I will make sure that what I advertise clearly represents the default state of the product so that people don’t make a mis-buy. If not, I would be guilty of false advertising… Unless I clearly state that my presentation does or might not give an actual representation of the product the client buys – or is subject to changes or specific treatment in order to look like that.
Oh well, as I said: I was looking for a nice CMYK pure black and won’t print this card anyway. I just think that most people who buy a card like this, based on what they see on the preview, will be disappointed.

I recently was browsing through some GR items and since I’m about to print my own business card very soon I decided to have a look at how others deal with printing pure-black business cards. So in the hope of getting an idea, and since the items are very cheap anyway, I downloaded 2 or 3 cards… one of which this one, which looks great… on the preview. When I open the file however, I see this:

While the preview image on the item details shows the following:

According to support there’s no difference and you get what you see there… So I wonder: is it just me or does the preview suggest a nice sleek texture that the actual card lacks (it’s a plain solid black)? Is it my screen? Did I do something wrong?
Don’t get me wrong: I don’t want or need my money back, I don’t care about that. I’m just wondering if it’s just me…

ranfirefly has my vote.
I kinda like them all though. Good luck!
