It holds for the american notation as well, though – 11/02/2011! Europe had its symmetry on the 11th of february: 11-02-2011 (today is 02-11-2011).

Well, it actually makes sense. Compare it to this: when you say 123, you say 100, 20 and so from largest to smallest number. With the date, its the same thing: year (largest amount of time), month (middle) and day (smallest).

Our notation isnt that bad, just reversed. I dont get the US notation though, what sense does that make? :P

Pretty cool! I’ve never understood US date notation. I find the DD/MM/YYYY notation the most sane, ordering by units of time starting with the smallest measure through to the largest.
