At the end of the day, it’s probably best to acknowledge that a certain amount of traffic to your live preview will be from pirated sites… so perhaps you can take advantage of that? Display your price and a link to purchase. A certain percentage of those people will be surprised at the good price, and buy. Not all people who come from those sites are aware of what they’re doing, and those that are were never going to buy your item anyway.

+1 :)

You can find a positive in there somewhere, and in the meantime, submitting pirate sites to support is the best way to work towards reducing what’s out there :)

Followed your advice :-)

Those people who pirated it, were probably not going to buy it in the first place. So try to not think of it as money lost.

That is true in most cases of, let’s say, adobe photoshop, but not with cheap templates/themes. I think most people are willing to pay $10-$40 if they know they’re gonna use it. Mostly because they will be able to get support and also because they could get exposed. After all, when you upload a website it’s out there for anyone to see. It’s not like with music/movies/software.

I think you are right, but the people that download the file are interested in the template. Maybe to see how something is build or maybe to use the template. Any documentation is kind of helpful. So i think it helps to place a link on your template to Themeforest with the text that the template is only $14 / $22.
