Hello, as far as I know, the rating that appear next to a users name is based on the ratings of this users products. There’s some authors that I think make great files and I would give them 5/5 on the actual quality of the file. When it comes to support and updates, I would give 1/5 to some authors without mentioning names… But I cannot do this as of the current rating system. I was hoping this could be added. I think a new rating like this will force authors (sorry) to update and support their products more.
Defined support?
- Sold between 250 000 and 1 000 000 dollars
- Has been a member for 6-7 years
- Author had a File in an Envato Bundle
- Most Wanted Bounty Winner
- Interviewed on the Envato Notes blog
- Author was Featured
- Item was Featured
- South Africa
Keep in mind we are not obligated to provide support at all.. it’s a free service we provide. Basically we make ready made files, which comes with support documentation, and at the low price what you buy is what you get. Penalising authors for poor support would be unfair. Also files should be rated on the files quality, not based on whether or not the author provides good support. Regarding updates…If the file has a serious bug and the author is not fixing it, then you can contact support and the author will be notified to correct the issue with an update.
- Author had a Free File of the Month
- Author was Featured
- Bought between 10 and 49 items
- Europe
- Exclusive Author
- Has been a member for 4-5 years
- Item was Featured
- Referred between 10 and 49 users
- Sold between 10 000 and 50 000 dollars
This topic is going hot, you have touched a sensitive authors issue
. Are you ready to pay for support?

I think all authors will sign this opinion. I never understand why Envato has never used the main featured space on home (the one besides Hello!) to say: SUPPORT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE OF THE FILES .
Bottom line end of dissection if the authors give you free support that’s cool many do so but many are not .I think 90% of the authors charge for support mostly for modification
You cant expect from authors giving you help for a file that cost $5-$10-$15 or $40 for free, just go to the freelance world you will see what i am taking about .
The only one who can own me for $40 is probably my girl other then that …..
Hey pezflash I see you getting married congratulations

the only official available support is at this page:
The fact that people are still complaining about author support make me think about two explanations:
One is that envato do not inform enough the buyers about this fact.
Second is that maybe people are kinda dumb and don’t read the terms of this website.
(the one besides Hello!) to say: SUPPORT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE OF THE FILES .
yeap hello envato! make this clear:
“SUPPORT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE OF THE FILES .”
authors always trot out that tired reminder “support not included” but as a buyer I ONLY buy from authors who DO provide basic support, answer questions, etc. when these support requests are asked and answered publicly it benefits the author and the buyers. fact is, many of the files I purchase here have some issues and I think it is perfectly reasonable for the author to help clear them up! now I guess I should brace myself for the onslaught of flames!

This is the start of confusion between two groups.
group 1: Authors don’t have to provide support.
group 2: Authors who don’t provide support are worse than those who do.
Group 1 and 2 have nothing in common.
Jim, the thing that is being stressed is that providing support is not mandatory as stated in the rules/terms of these marketplaces. The people who say this are not saying that authors shouldn’t provide support or that not providing support is a good move. They’re just saying that you aren’t obligated to do so.
I’ve noticed that the heat in these threads usually results from people pulling a straw man argument on each other. Please do not misrepresent each others positions regarding the issue.

you should read carefully what this thread is about. It is actually about creating some kind of star review for how authors handle support. This when we discussed countless times that no one is obligated to provide support or even answer questions of any kind.
