Hi,

As subject really, anyway to buy an item exclusively, so it is taken off the site ?

I noticed other theme sites offer this but not seen it on here.

You can just send the author a message and make them an offer for the item. That’s how it gets done around here I believe. Envato most likely doesn’t encourage it since it’s probably not good for the marketplaces ;)

You can get the Extended license, but . . .

The potential for an Author to sell more of an item exists – making sales kind of like Royalties from a book. Probably in the authors best interest to not remove from the marketplaces.

But, as ToivoMedia said above, it’s still possible.

The items am looking at are graphic items that sell for around $3 and most have less than 10 sales. For the exclusive license I would have thought it would be over $500.

I would only buy exclusive if it was through Envato. Maybe they could implement something where you could buy a exclusive license if say sales are below a certain number, once they go above that number the option is removed.

EDIT : Forgot to add – The reason for me wanting a exclusive license is that am developing a iPad App and I don’t want anyone ripping it off with the same graphics.

@theDaveB I think it’s a very good idea. Everybody wins, because for products that have limited market reach, there can only be so many sales. But if someone purchases it exclusively, I’m sure it will make the author happy, and Envato gets a good cut too.

@theDaveB I think You better contact the author with the graphics to make some unique just for You. I don’t think Envato will implement something like this in near future and if so, it should be exclusive only to first sale, otherwise it won’t be exclusive :)

Yeah I understand it wouldn’t be exclusive completely as the item has already had some sales. I have always wondered that with other theme sites, your not actually buying it exclusive. But say someone sees my game, looks on here and finds the graphics and does something very simular, at least if I bought it and it was removed from here, there is no chance of that happening.

I could contact the author and offer them a sum to remove it but with knowing the author, how can I trust them not to sell it every again ?

Hi theDaveB,

Trust is always a concern, but that’s more a matter of building an understanding and respectful business relationship. Your concern is also another reason why it would be better to contact the author(s) of the work you like and commission them to create you something totally unique for your use only.

Envato is unlikely to ever implement exclusive purchases as highlighted by graphic-studio and the fact that items would disappear from the marketplaces.

Most authors are undoubtedly responsible and trustworthy and would jump at the opportunity to create something custom if the rate is fair, like the amount you highlighted earlier! I know I’d jump at the opportunity! ;) And any author would be stupid to jeopardize an agreement as you wouldn’t use them ever again would you?

If you’re that worried you could always get them to sign an agreement or contract stating that the item is not to be resold.
