Hey folks, I’d like to invite all of you to help me send an author to the Envato 2012 Meetup. That’s right, I am willing to start things off by contributing $30 towards one lucky author’s round-trip ticket to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!
After all, isn’t that what a community should be about? Since we all can’t afford to go, at least we can group together and send someone representing all of us. Sounds like a proper and fair deal to me.
How will this work? Well, someone trustworthy from Envato staff could setup a Paypal account, and a landing page as well, where we can see how much has already been donated, etc…
Staff could brainstorm a fair and transparent way to pick a lucky winner, and when the time comes, announce it the cool Envato way.
I’m ready to donate, and hopefully, if/when Staff embraces this idea, we can all begin to be part of it. Let’s show them Envato magnates just how strong this community really is. Cheers.
I like the idea
- United States
- Has been a member for 4-5 years
- Exclusive Author
- Author was Featured
- Sold between 50 000 and 100 000 dollars
- Item was Featured
- Contributed a Tutorial to a Tuts+ Site
- Author had a Free File of the Month
Cool idea! It would be nice if the community could pick who goes. Maybe 1 author from each marketplace could be nominated or something and then everyone could vote.

On a side note, this author would not only represent the community with his/her presence, but also take the opportunity to talk to Envato Staff about the community in general, bringing up recent issues, ideas, concerns, feedback and so on.

Start an account and get the ball rolling.

Unfortunately, this initiative does not meet Kickstarter’s Project Guidelines.
It’s probably better to wait until Staff provides some sort of feedback anyway, as contributions are much more likely to be made if Envato is involved with setting up the account, rather than a single author. You know, the usual trust/fraud issues.
Let’s show Envato how powerful we can be together.
I’m ready to donate.
