good video. i’ve gotten through most of Crush It, which isn’t hard cause it’s very short. i must say that i disagree with your point of view regarding custom websites. gary does believe they have use too. on the section for twitter he mentions that it’s hard to write a long piece of content, so your own blog is good. twitter and facebook are good to find new fans, but they should ultimately draw them to your real site where you control all the marketing, and most importantly your brand.
two more points: the advantage to your custom homepage is that you can put all your content on there, so when someone wants to catch up on what you’re up to, they can find it. a lot of people still don’t use twitter, and many people on facebook aren’t necessarily engaging with your content.
social networks can be noisy places, and even though they help people find your content, your own site can be more peaceful and quiet.
