I’m a new member here, relatively speaking, so I have had the great pleasure of having my stuff shot down really fast, right off the bat.
The first thing I’d have to say is this: Don’t take it personally. This goes for more than just the Marketplace, but it’s a solid statement. The Envato Marketplaces strive to provide solid content to the community. If your stuff isn’t up to snuff, don’t get mad. Review the notes, and refine your work until it meets the criteria.
Second: Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you don’t know how to do something, or just cannot figure out why something was denied or priced the way it was; ask. The review teams are really helpful, and in the end they really only have your best interests at heart.
Third: Ask yourself “would you buy this?” If you cannot find an instance where you would, chances are it won’t sell as well as you think. Not to say it wouldn’t, as there’s always someone out there.
Fourth: Look at what others have done. if you’re submitting something that’s been done by 50 other people, it makes it far harder for your item to outshine the rest. Market saturation can happen here, so it’s a good idea to know what you’re getting into.
Last: Always work to improve yourself. This is another one of those “more than just the marketplace” but it also holds true. You should always be challenging yourself to create bigger and better things. Refining your craft is one of the best ways to get ahead in the Marketplace, and in your personal/professional life.
That’s all I have for now~

The above pretty much sums up a lot of the advice I would give.
I would add that being successful in the marketplaces also involves being professional in every little detail. I often see Item previews with poor typography, poor item descriptions, tags and I’m certain that help files must vary wildly in terms of quality. these things matter, on top of the general quality and context of what you are actually selling. You need to polish your product in every little detail, then polish it again.

I new to all of this, design & the hole 9!
To keep it short & sweet…
1. Dont be afraid to ask for help from your reviewer or folks around here. Granted yeah, there is some smart-asses floating around, but dont let that detour you from reaching out & perusing something you truly enjoy.
2. Try, try & try again! The worst thing you can do is get down on yourself due to a rejection, all thats going to do is set you up for failure (So to speak) during your next project because you start second guessing everything you do. The reviewers (Along with everyone else) do a great job of giving away great information to help us all out, so use it & take advantage of it all.
Also, dont forget to do some research. Ive come to notice there is tons of great stuff floating the web for inspiration, along with things in the outside world. And, dont forget to checkout the top selling files here @ GR along with the other market places. They are top sellers for a reason!
