Yeah, just just simply like that i think…
There was a big discussion about this a couple of weeks ago.
after 30 minutes searching i gave up. Do you remember any unique word they used over there? unlike other other threads? For example “rabbit fart” or “pink spaceship” – im not joking…
I’ve mentioned this in a couple of other threads before with the same comment:
Only artists and creatives are stupid enough to think that a 50% share on the work they do is good enough.
My day job is in the energy business. My company provides a platform that sells other companies products. We also provide additional services to both companies and customers. Our cut is 1%. 99% goes to affiliate/partners/customers who have the products or do the work. We are just the intermediary with the platform.
This is regarded as industry standard in my sector, and also in a number of other sectors. Only in the creative sectors would anyone even think of selling their products and leaving 50% to the intermediary. It’s ridiculous.
Don’t get me wrong, I love GR and Envato and I carry their achievements in the highest respect. I would also sell considerably less of my work without them. And since fortunately I do not do this for an income, but for fun and a little pocket money for my kids I am a happy camper.
But a 50% share on other people’s work … Well … Only creatives…
1:99 seems like huge to me. Im not that greedy. 50-70% would not bad, but the $75,000 range a bit high. And wait a minute… its not about Envato gives money to us, but exactly the opposite.
Damn… where is that other thread????
You do get 50 – 70! Or are you not exclusive?
I think 70 should be the minumum.
Yes the 99 in my sector is quite extreme. However our sector is not the only one where it is like this. And it is actually very similar in terms of how to generate income as here: the business model only works on lots of small sales. We may only make 1%, but we can make that 1% millions of times. Same as Envato
Show us the moneyyyyyyy!
On the other hand, Envato does give you the possibility to make your work economically viable. I would calculate that if I sold my items 100 times each, then I could probably say I break even in terms of time invested and economic returns. A very low even, but just about acceptable.
And theoretically that is quite possible even at 50% share. I would estimate that I could get there with maybe half my items by the time they reach the end of their lifespan. Since I do this as a hobby I do not really promote my items, so I probably could do better.
So Envato does give you the possibility to make the most out of your activities and that’s pretty awesome in its own right.
