I think it is really important for Envato to let all their buyers know about the recent TimThumb security update to all its buyers through twitter, facebook and newsletters.
Not being able to make announcements to buyers for these issues is kinda annoying to both the sellers and the buyers.

Did you hear about “customer privacy” ? Now, that is the issue. That is why we cannot know who bought our themes unless they send us an email and/or make a comment. That is why you cannot mass email your clients when you have a new theme. And if you think you will see the reasons are very good and things will stay this way forever.

That’s true. You’re right about the privacy issues.
However for security issues like these where many themes commonly use timthumb, it would be a good idea to release a general announcement by Envato to all its buyer.
