My motherboard has an issue where it remaps my SSD WHILE in use, which means my computer keeps freezing up, and I have to go in the BIOS and fix it. It’s happening every 30 mins, so I think it’s about time I retire my $1600, August 2011, self built computer.

The worst thing about building your own computer is, it doesn’t have Apple Care. My motherboard would cost $400 to replace – which definitely isn’t an option. I’ve been trying to hold out for the new Macs, and I’ll keep trying but I’m not sure I can manage it.

Anyways, just expressing my feelings over DIY computers – it’s a bad idea. Don’t buy a Cooler Master “HAF” case either. It collects dust like you wouldn’t believe, the ports on it are upside down, half of them don’t work (these are on the case, they went out one by one, trust me, I plugged them in) and it weighs like 100 lbs. A Mac is light, just as powerful, doesn’t consume dust for dinner, and looks a LOT better.

I know very well what I’m doing – the thing is Newegg would require – and this is no joke, this is what they told me – to package up my motherboard just as it came, not missing a little bag, piece of foam, cardboard, NOTHING CAN BE MISSING , send it back to them, and if absolutely nothing is missing, they’ll send me a new one.

I spent a very long time making sure I got the best parts with the best reviews – I would never buy bad parts.

Edit: love how you edited your post to sound even more rude.

Sorry, forgot a detail.

They can’t take just the motherboard either – they have to take the whole order and try to replace the whole order – I’d have to unbuild my computer, repack everything just as it came, send it back, and hope they have my parts available.

Well the problem there is they want it to be packaged like it came, and one guy in the reviews said ASUS took MONTHS to get him his replacement. I cannot wait months.

a) Study the law, I am sure you have laws in America which tells that you don’t have to have every single bag and box. The rules for return he just told you are imho for returning an item in let’s say 14 days after purchase -> therefore he offered a new one (or money back) because you are only entitled for a refurbished item or your item repaired in your case. Or maybe, just maybe… they are explicitly told to pull your leg like that because consumers tend to be lazy and uninformed :P

b) Sell the MB

Either way, both is gonna take some time so you probably want to buy a new MB anyway :(

Regarding the dust, you should use vacuum cleaner at least once a week to keep it nicely under control. Or get a Mac like you said, they are built like a fort and can stand the beating better.
