Are you using Envato’s referral program? The banners they provide are great, but the problem is that they look a lot like generic ads, so most visitors tend to ignore them.
It would be nice if there was a way to display your referral URL prominently, yet in way that doesn’t look like you’re advertising something. The solution: flash widgets!
A flash clock bearing the Graphic River logo could make people look and click. Since that clock is actually a button that links straight to Graphic River with your referral ID, you’ve now got a referral and potentially a commission.

The GR flash clock and how to customize it
To get things started, I’ve made the first flash clock (shown in the example above). You can grab the .swf, the source .fla and source Fireworks & Photoshop files here at the end of this post.
Add your referral ID
Note that the link inside the downloadable example swf doesn’t work yet – it’s your job to add your own referral ID by opening the included source .fla file. (Those without the Flash authoring environment have to wait until an xml-powered clock comes out).
Once the .fla is open, click on the object and press F9. In the ActionScript editor, replace the dummy url with your referral ID. Instructions are in script comments.
Once you’re done, publish the file and add it to your site. That’s it!
Change the clock graphics
You can also customize the clock’s look to make it fit your site better. The included source graphics are a good start for the clockface, and the arms can be changed from within the flash source file. Only your creativity is the limit!
Future plans
In the future, I plan to make different clocks and perhaps even other types of widgets (calendar, countdown etc.) Until then, feel free to use this clock for your GR referral needs.
