Which are criteria for an item to be featured by staff? I thought it is amount of sales + amount of 5 stars ratings, but looks like it is not.

To be good?
Yeah, that’s a question from me too, looking from the forum’s moderators feedback
Increase the chances of getting your file to be chosen as “Featured in the Files of the Week” by concentrating on a file that looks good, is useful, offers something new, or is simply better than anyone else’s file that week.
File of the Week was selected by the site manager.
Thanks @laranz, but what if I consider one of my plugins as that looks good, is useful and offers something new, how can I ask the site manager to review it?

Yes, Forum Mods have nothing to do with the selection of featured files. Reviewers have a whole selection of criteria for which files they choose. Quality of course would be a main contributing factor, but there’s a whole lot more that goes into it.
I believe that most featured items are picked based on how unique they are in the marketplace, there are other contributing factors, quality etc.
Understand, but how to let them know that my plugin is unique and good

By submitting it for sale on the marketplaces
every file is automatically considered, so there’s nothing extra you need to do

Targetting to be featured is like trying to catch the exact mosquito that bite few seconds ago. Sales is better target! Sometimes mosquitoes gets trapped in hand without aiming though
