Well, i’m also thinking about getting the latest MBP 13 ” because the retina MB looks too over-priced to me.TylerQuinn said
from what I have read you cannot even connect the 13” Pro to an external monitor. Are you sure?
These two look like connected 13” MBPs ..

I think they were talking about the ability to upgrade the actual LCD panel. The upgraded 15” allows for: “Configurable to 1680-by-1050 high-resolution glossy or antiglare display.”
Being a new model refresh a year later, I dont see how the 13” Pro and 13” Air could have such different displays. I did notice (and have read on the Apple forums) that the Pro LCD ’s do have a much better color gamut.
I’d say different displays has to do with thinness and lightness but I’m not sure.

Didn’t they abstain from updating the displays in order to force the display fetishists to buy a much more expensive retina Macbook?

Or even the 15”, the 13” is defiantly a cop out for anyone who wants a better screen res. You get the MBP power over the air but a crappy screen size. If it was not going to spend most of its time hooked up to an external monitor I would go with the 15” for sure.
