Hey Devs,
You know that awesome moment when a buyer emails you via your profile’s contact page, and you get this beautiful email with a heading that looks like:
[username] just sent you a message from your marketplace profile.
If you need to verify that this user is a customer of yours, visit http://themeforest.net/user/username?pm_key=1234567890
The purchase data shown in the link above will only be active for 7 days from the sending of this email.
When clicking that link, you can see whether that user has actually purchased any of your products, when that purchase happened and under what license.
So, I would kindly like to suggest a similar method of viewing a buyer’s purchase-date, from the actual comments-section. Whenever a buyer comments on the purchased item, his comment is decorated with a “PURCHASED” ribbon. How cool would it be, if on hover (or when the ribbon gets clicked), you actually get to see the same info you see from the email-link (either as a tooltip, or on a new page). Most importantly, the date the user purchased that item and (ideally) the type of license.
Some authors might wonder why this is of any use, and well, my answer to that is quite simple: When you first release an item that requires a bunch of updates, you can easily tell whether the user has bought version X, and tell him: “hey, version Y fixes this, please update”.
Please let me know whether this is possible, and whether you’re willing to do it. Just to know
Thank you!

I’m with you
It’s a good idea. But I actually wanted to ask something.
1. When the buyer has not yet bought the project and he write comments, they do not have a purchase ribbon right?
2. Then this buyer is buying my project the next day, but when I look at the comments that he wrote, there is no purchase ribbon.
It happens to me when the buyer sends an email to me with her personal email and not via my profile page, and he said it was buying my project yesterday when I gave the answer to question that he write on the comments.
And this sometimes confuses me.

A buyer’s comment only receives a ribbon IF he comments AFTER he has purchased your item. But that’s logical. Say a user leaves a comment asking for something on May 2. Then, he purchases my item on May 8 and leaves a comment the same day (he now has a PURCHASED ribbon), and I can directly treat him like a buyer – plus, if the date request I have asked here would be available, I could check which item’s updated version he has missed/downloaded.

It might be better if there is a direct purchase ribbon that whenever a buyer purchased our project.
Great idea, would be a really nice thing to implement.

Yes! I think this would be a great addition to the purchased flag.
It would at least save us the trouble of suggestions like, “Please make sure you’re using the latest version.”, if they bought the theme 2 hours ago.
My best friend who sales on this site (Solair) makes pixel arts. Maybe you can use this icon he created for this very thing, we never have used it at all: [promotion links removed]
The email could simple tell us whether/when the person bought our items. Why even require a click-through for verification?
Or, better yet, authors could simply have a list of buyers with purchase dates and which versions were downloaded by that buyer.
The most evil thing an author could (stupidly) do to all his customers is probably less awful than the hassles of verification for all parties (author and buyer).
