Just to let you know, that Olympic rings/flag are trade marks and without an appropriate $$$ licence we are not allowed to use it in our projects..
it`s ridicules but true… we have just got a notice about that from an owner and it`s NOT nice!

Hi, Alex..
i think there is a misunderstanding here.. because based on wikimedia the Olympic rings are a “public domain” material .. and Content marked as public domain (or local equivalent, e.g. “may be used for any purpose”) is material believed to be out of copyright, either because of expiration of the original copyright, or because the material has been explicitly released into the public domain by its creator(s).
you can see that the Olympic rings file here : http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Olympic_rings.svgis marked as a “public domain” material.. but what i think is a copy-righted material is the actual 2012 london Olympics logo, http://pickle92.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/london20121.jpg
and the 2012 london Olympics torch http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2011/06/dezeen_Olympic-Torch-by-BarberOsgerby-1.jpg
and using them in an graphic river item might cause copyright issues, unless you have the permission to do so

actually, we thought that way but the information from The International Olympic
Committee (IOC) it`s totally different
We use “rings” on feature image just to inform that our client supports (what is the truth) London Olympics 2012.
After couple of days got official notice that it`s a trademark and we are not allowed to use it
It`s silly but unfortunately true

interesting thing is that even simple word OLIMPIC is a trademark…
When my friend was asking me why i dont create something for the “games” i told him this reason exactly. I thought this is obvious.
London, London 2012, 2012, etc etc, all copyrighted by Locog and the Olympic design Police… There are many stories about them stopping peoples restaurants and shops using the logo and phrases….
I posted about it here: http://graphicriver.net/forums/thread/london-olympics/70025 where I post a link to the LOCOG guidelines for use of anything Olympics related.
