Next month I going for 3 weeks to India but I’m a bit worried because buyers that will comment on my items will probably have to wait 3 weeks before I can answer their questions.
Now my question is: Is there a possibility to automatily send and email to commenters with a message about my vacation? Otherwise they will think I’ve stopped supporting my items.
I was thinking of writing a script myself based on the comment feed: http://activeden.net/feeds/user_item_comments/sitebase.atom But the problem is that 99% of the authors didn’t enable the email feature.
What do you guys think of this?

Y cant you just put a big noticeable message on the top of all your items description sayin that the support will stop for blab blab blab
You can place a notification at every item you have, or your profile.
The other thing i thought was that you can activate a automatic responder to your email. So everybody get’s that msg when they contact you via your profile.
Maybe that helps!

I normally follow Ivor tip, but i reccommend you to use just an online image (visible and brgiht), no text. Put that image on your server. In your return just delete that image on server, all users will see is a empty post somewhere on page comments. If you put something on text, as we can’t edit older post, that text will be visible and create confussion. I know you can “report” it, but the message always seems bad for me, “this comment has been considered inappropiate, etc…”.
Also a big image on your profile notifiyng the return date will be useful for users.

There is an email feature for comments? How do I access it?

Everytime you make a reply under the comment box there is a box to tick “Send me an email if this comment receives any replies”
It needs to be done everytime though if you want to keep getting emails
A way to disable commenting on items should be a feature — authors may not want to provide support, or may not want opinions on their work (although, who won’t want opinions?)
But yeah, that’s a good point and I’ve never thought of that scenario before.
