Well. I was just looking at a couple of things to see how Videohive is getting on. I looked at the popular files stats for this week in 2009 to see how things looked.

In actual fact, the sales for the number 1 author were not so different, but the sales have noticeably levelled out for other authors. Back then, you needed only 34 sales to get in the top 20 authors list; now you need 126. That’s gotta be a good sign.

Back then, the 3 monthly best selling file had 168, today it has a very similar 172, but the pattern is the same, perhaps a little less marked. Back then to be in the 3 month popular list, you needed a mere 38 sales – now you need 69 (to get in the top 30… the list has been extended since back then).

Then I had a look at Videohive’s Alexa rating…

The daily reach has pretty much doubled since the same time last year.

Good signs…. :)

Which brings me on to my next point…..

There are people out there who don’t yet realise that they need Videohive. Some of the poor unenlightened souls may not even know of Videohive’s existence.

How about a little brainstorm, folks; to see what bright ideas we have to initiate these strays in the ways of the motion graphic? (and stock footage, of course).

I guess the debate also touches on that other perenially mysterious topic. Who on earth are our customers? :D

Ideas?

i was thinking that before videohive i knew many sites with stock images but no marketpalce with videos and projects. envato could put a marketplace with stock images or put advertisements in sites with stock images.

Well… I guess the only way to get this market place a name in the world would be advertising and word of mouth.. just like every other product…

But when and where?

Well – How about type in google some generic searches that people would normally search to find stock video/graphics/etc. – Things that they could find on this market place – then on the websites that pop up see if you can advertise on the top 2 or 3 for different searches… Or… figure out how this marketplace will pop up as one of the main searches.

I don’t exactly remember where I heard about this marketplace.. I believe I googled “motion backgrounds” and followed some links and somehow ended up here and now I am logging on every day to check out different graphics/videos/projects and new content.

Any 3rd party advertising companies that can be hired?

I am just throwing out some random ideas =)

This is a resource that many – if not all – graphic/motion/video designers and editors should have in their bookmarks – If nothing else for inspiration.

Who are your customers? Anyone and everyone….. Multimedia is the new thing… In any type of company from big to small… From Super stores to churches… (I work for a church so that is why I say that :) )

I believe anyone could use this marketplace for one reason or another.

People just have to find their way…

my .02 ….

Hope I didn’t get off track on this topic – If so – Forgive me!

Authors should definitely market themselves if they are not already.

Upload alternative previews to Vimeo and YouTube share your new project on Facebook,Twitter…whatever.Link back with a referral code.

BRAND YOURSELF !

And if you got some extra money, buy some banner-ads on sites related to this.

I know this topic has been discussed and there’s even a wiki for it,but it seems to me people aren’t really doing it.

Glad to see you looking into all of these things Felt. I check Alexa regularly, kind of addicting. If you look up ThemeForest, it’s on it’s way to breaking the 500 rank for the entire world, which is insanely exciting.. But I always find myself wishing VH would pick up the pace and get into the top 1,000.

Don’t get me wrong, the distance the site has traveled in the last year has been impressive. A major focus of mine starting in Q4 is to bring VH to the masses. We have kind of restructured the marketing department, and will be making some big moves to help ensure we find those people that don’t know about us. I think 2011 is going to be a huge year for VH with some very interesting things on the way!

A little side note, I’m being interviewed for the podcast today. Not sure when the podcast will be released, probably within the week. I’ll be on the recording discussing both VH and TF, and I have one pretty awesome announcement in regards to VH that I think you all will be very happy about. So be sure to listen to the community podcast when it’s released!!

Oh it’s going to get a lot better! You’re gonna need that Envato support group after all lol.

I can say this first announcement is a smaller one but I think it will be very much welcomed, and then a doozy of an announcement should be coming in a few weeks!
