I’ve noticed that the release of new products happens in “bursts”. This is probably due to one reviewer tackling several items in a short period of time, then goes back to his/her life and comes back to reviewing the next day.
The bad thing about this is that new products in a burst are more than the current system for “recent items” can handle, thus making a lot of good items become automatically buried.
Now, I image the idea of the managers is that one comes here and buys when they actually need something, but there’s one thing that is true for every online market: being on the front page (with recent or whatever items) makes sales.
So I don’t think it’s fair for sellers (in general, because it happens randomly) to have their products buried because they weren’t last in the burst.
There are several ways to fix this: - Making the number of items in the rotation for “recent items” (in the front page and in the left bottom box on every page) greater than the number of items released in a burst. - Releasing items in a periodical, automated manner (one every X hours/minutes/whatever) - Hiring more reviewers and making sure their time zones differ. - Make reviewers release items on a schedule.
For the sake of simplicity, I’d vote for the first option. =) Thank you for listening. Barb
I totally agree with your post, its not fair to some sellers. The first option has my vote as well.
I agree
I think the site needs a new design because there are much more items than flashden for example

Yeah. I would also suggest that a random items page is created… some kind of way to explore… as a buyer you will buy if you see something you like….... and not only if you are specially serching for something…

oh… and how about a “reviewers choice” page? With something like 30 Items…... The reviewers can choose during the review of an item if an item qualifies for that page… and new choices appear there.
The reviewers choice can lead to controversy. Believe me, I know. If products from member X are chosen more often, people will come here and complain about it.
I’d leave that one out. We already have a featured author and featured item. I think that’s enough. Whatever efforts, I’d do them towards equal opportunities for everybody.

you were right DreamWarrior….. New items in the “recent page” are beeing buried by other new items…. that just happened to my cd case.
And that will happen to my other items in the queue… which are in the first 17 …. because almost 52 items are waiting for approval….
bye bye 15 minutes of fame…. hehe

Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe the “Recent Items” section cycles through the last 100 items uploaded, or at least that’s the way it used to operate on TF.
I wonder how much sales really come from the recent items section on the homepage versus search?
I would imagine most people in need of some stock art are looking for a specific item, so they would use the search function. At least that’s the way it usually goes for myself.
It would be really nice if they could provide “Us” authors with some simple stats, like clickthroughs, referrals, page views, etc…
It seems that the number of items cycling is less than 100, at least here.
And yes, one would imagine that people would only buy something they already have in mind, something they need for their projects. But that’s not always the case. Sales increase when you’re on the recent items list because not always show your new item, it also gives you exposure as a seller (people might not need exactly what you just uploaded, but if they like it, they might go and check your portfolio out and find something that they want/need/like).
One other thing that could help is to make a page of all items (regardless of category) sorted by last upload. Most sites have it, it wouldn’t be an innovation, but it works (and probably that’s the reason why most sites have it).
