On the Show Popular Items page…

There’s Popular Weekly & Popular in the Last 3 Months… however, a lot of the items on both are the same… most likely if your item has been popular in the last 3 months… you’re going to be on the weekly list and vice versa… and this can continue on for eons… and the rich continue to get richer…

nothing wrong with the rich getting richer… :) however I bet the little guys, noobs, etc… would like the chance to gain exposure if they have something good to contribute… and not get lost amongst the giants…

I think a nice addition to that page would be a Popular New Items block… where the files listed would be popular files that have been submitted within the last few weeks only… after a few weeks, they’d be gone from this section or at least appearing in one or both of the other sections already on the page…

It would improve that page from being less static; along with help gain exposure for new items that are being purchased… it could also help automate the “Weekly Features” block that sits on the homepage that hasn’t been updated in weeks… :p

There’s no way to filter by both new & popular within the marketplace (at least I can’t find such)... so my thoughts are it would be welcomed by both buyers and sellers…

Thoughts?

i am going to say something really crazy now…if the aim is to get on the weekly popular list, the thing to do is simple. Thought it will cost you some money, but well…the end result is 100%. Upload a new item (or use any of your already listed), lets say the item is priced at $5. Get 20 of your dudes purchaise the file within a week and pay their money back later. This will cost you $100, reduce envato’s commission ($60), you get $40 in your account.

Conclusion…there you are on the list…you have made 20 sales a week (which is a good number for GraiphicRiver sales).

I know it’s a tricky method but may work as kinda “boast” for an item you believe that have big potential but lag in “visibily” on the marketplace.

Absolutely agree. Like small author i feel really hard getting some exposure, even for files i think they are interesting (not only mine, but mine also, why not…). Right now the system just give more and more exposure to files even 2 years old (they are good enough, of course, to be bought after such a time) and nothing to new files that has not sale more than for example 15/20 times during the first week.

About what you said, Thomas, i also though about that (i suppose all we’re not big authors have though in that), but is certainly a shame to be looking for exposure that way. I think if a file is good, well developed, interesting for the buyer, must have some way to be seen here, but this community is so big and everybody knows… big fishes eat the small ones.

Well, maybe the only way is keep on working and not lose the hope!

Hi guys, this discussion seems to have no sense to me :-)

The popular files are top selling files. They are there because they sell many times during the week.

You can do whatever you want, but top seller files will be always top seller…I don’t understand… if you do a new file that sells 10 times in a week and there is a 2 years old file that sells 30 times in the same week , that file will be in the popular and your not… this is logic…

Don’t think that for the top authors is easy to be in the popular… it’s hard for them too… and, in any case, everybody has to deserve it… we’ve entered the popular files after many many weeks of work and to maintain our files there we have to work hard week after week… if you want to go in the popular work hard, that’s the secret.

By the way, the popular items change very often and lately I’m seeing many new authors and files joining the list… and many top getting out…

There are so many great files (esspecialy on graphicriver) that doesnt get even a chance to be noticed (guess why?) and they dont make even a single sale. I somehow agree with luckykind...this monopoly thrend must stop and the system must serve fair exposure…my last 1 cent on here.
