Hi all just would like to make you aware of some changes of the speeding regulations in USA !

I got a speeding ticket today!

I didn’t know that if you are 20miles over the limit you go in jail. For over 30miles you go up to an year in jail.

I got lucky that the cop wrote only 19miles over the speed limit.

So be aware of this change which takes effect from the beginning of 2011

really? wow.

In the UK if you’re 30mph over the speed limit you lose your license, else its just points and a fine depending how many points you already have…

Keep in mind all laws will vary from state to state, county to county, the officer, and the circumstances in question.

well maybe I exaggerate the changes but yes there are changes. In the state of IL:

Just it gets tougher.

Yep.

I think the speeding is not the major problem on our roads. The most dangerous is the lack of respect to the other drivers and not paying enough attention to the surrounding.

Now-days the speeding is more like a business. :D

Speeding is indeed a crime :o

Here it’s more than 50km/h (= 30 miles/h) over the limit and you lose your license. Below that it’s a fine. To be honest I find these rules way too weak. If you’re speeding that much (30mph really is quite a difference) it cannot be accidental. The thing with traffic violations that always gets me pissed is that people don’t just endanger themselves, they endanger everybody around them.

I guess the heavyness of a year in jail sounds about right for such a violation (I disagree with imprisonment as a punishment for these kind of crimes, but that’s a whole other debate for some other time ;) )

Speeding in itself is not a problem; it’s the points of interaction between drivers on the road that cause most accidents ( Crossroads, turns and curves, passing between lanes etc ), and so they should be regulated and fined the most.

The problem is these exact types of interactions are harder for police to monitor and regulate, so they go for the easy ( and flawed ) solution of limiting speed with no regard to the amount of traffic on a specific section and the environmental conditions.

Plus, it’s one heck of a money-cow along with parking lot fines.

just my opinion…
