The official launch of CS6 is in a couple of hours….. http://cs6.cs5.org/?p=1903 . If you read down that page a bit, you’ll find this…(thanks Inlife for the link)
It should be mentioned that Adobe CS6 launch date is not the date when products shipment begins….Don’t forget that only before May 6th there is still a possibility to buy Adobe CS5 .5 at current price and get a free CS6 upgrade after the new Creative Suite is shipped. This is a great opportunity to save some funds because upgrade to CS6 may be more expensive than to CS5 .5.
The fact that anyone who owns CS5 , CS5.5 and CS6 can natively backwards save CS6 projects as far as CS5 is an important thing now and in the future for template makers, on top of which it means that you could start using the super fast CS6 as soon as it’s released to build your CS5 projects. If you own CS5 and upgrade directly to CS6 , skipping CS5 .5, you will not be able to do this.
Just a heads up, guys.
Edit: The snippet above indicates that if you buy CS5 .5 now, then the upgrade to CS6 is free. As Inlife pointed out below though, it’s not 100% clear whether “buy” means buying fresh or whether upgrading is included in the deal too. I’d say it is, but DYOR .

Some great advice felt, thanks. Everybody who doesn’t have 5.5 should be taking advantage of this.
That’s awesome info. Thanks

So if someone is about to purchase AE for the first time, he’d better buy CS5 .5 now and simply upgrade to CS6 later rather than get a full CS6 in the first place? In terms of $, CS5 .5 and CS6 cost the same as it looks.. What you win with this deal is wider range for backward saving capability, is this so?

I had read it as though buying were buying an upgrade or from fresh, not just buying the application from fresh.
The wording’s actually a bit thorny. It seems that yes… buying from scratch now is a great option, but it’s not quite clear whether upgrading is included in this deal. If you upgrade to 5.5 now, is the upgrade to CS6 free? Not sure.
I’d still say that the upgrade to CS5 .5 is worth the $179 over time, even if you then have to pay again for the upgrade to CS6 . Ultimately it’s the difference between being able to back save to CS5 or not, which could potentially mean quite a bit of revenue over the next few years.

Another thing to keep in mind for anyone considering a Creative Cloud membership, https://creativecloud-specialoffer.adobe.com/special-offer/?loc=en_US
They’re giving anyone who has CS3 or newer a discount. $29.99 p/month for the first year rather than the full $50.

Why is this is if you get a “download” button at the end.. There is no extra logistics, etc.
