i use avast :) very secure.. with online banking paying bills etc scanns computer very offten for virus’s

I used to use Avast, but I had some conflicts with some of my audio software, which is a shame as it’s very good.

I’ve since switched to Avira, which is also excellent. I mean, the virus scanning protocol is called “Luke Filewalker”. :D

I use ESET Nod32, but I hear that Kaspersky Anti Virus is pretty good too.

I use Symantec Endpoint Protection (Norton) for virus, and I normally use SpyBot.

However, I found Hit Man Pro does a way better job at the malware / rootkits / etc than Spybot/Adaware/etc. Hit Man Pro isn’t free (30 day free trial) but I has definitely made a good impression on me.

Guys, for Windows there is Microsoft Security Essentials. You don’t need anything more than that. Remove all the 3rd party crap and install only that thing. It’s free and from Microsoft.

Privacy, data security and the peace of mind, each is a big concern to me, so I tried most of the antivirus/firewall/anti-spyware solutions available for Windows. I was pretty satisfied with ESET ’s NOD32 AV , several years ago. Last year I switched to ESET SmartSecurity 4 (for those of you who don’t know, it’s an integrated Antivirus/Firewall/Antispam solution), never had any problems with malware ever since. I’m not saying it’s the best protection, and I definitely agree that the perfect data security concept is just a dream, but given the choice, I’d still use ESS 4 . Virus definition updates come reasonably frequently (1 – 3 daily), the resource footprint is very low, even when scanning on demand, and the virus recognition capabilities are very good. The firewall is awesome, using Interactive Mode (it just asks for my permission when an application wants to connect to a remote address, and lets me decide whether I want to be asked again or not when the same application tries to dial out again). Besides, it lets me define my own rules, just like Cisco’s ACLs :D

When I’m in doubts about an .exe or .dll, I just send it to VirusTotal and to Jotti’s MalwareScan, just to make sure the file is not… slightly infected :P

If you have a good antivirus and firewall, and you’re surfing the web smartly and carefully enough, the chances of your computer getting infected are pretty slim. Like I said, ESS 4 is doing a very, very good job :)

:D ESS 4 has just updated its antivirus signature database as I write this post :P
Cause of this I’m using ESET Smart Security 4 now aswell.. Love it so far! :) Great to have such a lightweight protection program on my PC. Thanks :)
