SteelBook is the new innovative packaging technique for high profile music, video & game releases.
SteelBook is unique in that its exterior case is metal with a clear plastic inlay on the inside.
The 3D Design Template provided consists of the following:
1 PSD file of the open case looking inside
1 PSD file of the open case from the outside
A folder that contains all the template sizes to produce your own artwork
A set of 8 actions to place your custom artwork in the template hassle free
A pre-made DVD label PSD layered and ready for you to create your own label and then apply to the template
Ok…. here is the fun part!!
The design of the template is consistent with how the manufacturer would apply the custom artwork to the material.
I created a 3D model which I rendered on several different layers at 2000×2000 pixels. What this means is that you get the nice effects shown in the preview image by having your custom inlay art for example between the case metal material and the plastic lining
EXAMPLE shown above in the preview with the several elements broken out and how they are used.
METALLIC CASE that you can adjust the color and tint while maintaining the specular metal highlights and shading
PLASTIC INLAY which nestles nicely within the case and in conjunction with the custom action allow you to place custom artwork between itself and the case as shown in the preview image. There is artwork areas available on the left side, right side and middle strip between the two
CD HOLDER using the custom PSD file create your cd label and then have it placed perfectly in place
PAMPHLET again either use this or not as needed but all the same you are able to place a custom insert in place under the tabs for that tru 3D look and feel
I also know that depending on your custom labels you would probably want to change the metal case color… no problem this is done by simply selecting the layer it is on (all layers are organized very clean and tidy for easy workflow) and then simply adjusting the hue and saturation. The metal highlights and effects are carried over from the custom lighting within the 3D rendering.
Also… you have the ability to only show what you want. For example:
- either show the pamphlet or turn off that layer to reveal your awesome inlay art
- either have the CD or DVD in the image or not
It is up to you and your creativity!!
