¿How can i easily work with Photoshop & AfterEffects Files?
Ok if you wanna work with After Effects and Photoshop you need to know that when importing files from PS to After, layers become individual files in AfterE., so you might wanna work with small layers on AE and specially with Photoshop.
I recomend you doing this
Open Photoshop.
Select the Group that holds all the layers of the Lava lamp you want to animate and make a new PSD file for that lamp. Put that group in the new PSD and save it.
Open AfterEffects.
Create a new comp. with 256×256 size.
Go to Projects->Import File and import this new PSD you just created.
Select the Composition Option on the Import Kind window, and “editable layer style”
When you do that you will have 3 files in the Project window:
Comp 1 PSD Name PSD Name Group (folder)
Drag the PSD Folder to the lower part in After Effects. You will now have all the layers listed below.
*Double click on PSD Name Composition icon in Project window. You will now see all you edit in the lower layers.
Tips
Photoshop layer groups are imported as individual compositions so i recomend you not to make lots of groups.
Organize and name layers in after effects as you find it more useful to organize yourself. If you change a layer name in a Photoshop file after you have imported it into After Effects, After Effects retains the link to the original layer. However, if you delete a layer, After Effects is unable to find the original layer and lists it as Missing in the Project panel.
Make sure that each layer has a unique name. This is not a requirement of the software, but it will help to keep you from becoming confused.
I hope this helps you a bit. If you need anything else, just email me or leave a comment.
