Sorry. I’m having trouble making the large text at the top appear ‘see through’. I’m using Illustrator CS5 .

I’ve followed your instructions. After selecting both the text and the long narrow white box around it I select the subtract option in pathfinder, nothing happens i.e. the text stays visible.
