About the Star Maps Collection
The arcane star maps of the Hygenius Star Atlas of 1482 – come from a collection of woodblock prints depicting ancient constellations with their mythological compatriots. According to the Public Domain Review: “The relative positions of the stars in the woodcuts bear little resemblance to the descriptions given by Hyginus in the text or the actual positions of the stars in the sky. As a result of the inaccuracy of the depicted star positions and the fact that the constellations are not shown with any context, the Poeticon astronomicon is not particularly useful as a guide to the night sky.” Taking cues from the illustrators of the original Star Atlas, my designs are artistic imaginations and bear little resemblance to actual astrological positions in the night sky.
